What kinds of programs do you fund?

We fund community-based agencies that provide programs or services that meet specific grant requirements. In FY 08 and FY 09, the Network's focus is on supporting programs that:

1) reduce health disparities

2) improve chronic disease prevention (wellness)/reduce the incidence of chronic disease

3) capacity building for organizations and across communities

The best way to understand the types of programs we fund and the value of this process is to read the following document.

How do I apply for a grant?

Our grants are issued on an annual cycle reflecting funds available in our operating budget each year.  The Network issues a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) that describes eligibility, program parameters, and application requirements. Organizations complete an application which is then reviewed against others, and a funding decision is made. Our RFP's are historically issued in the fall, after our Oct. 1 fiscal year is in progress.  Funds are typically awarded betweenJanuary and February for a one-year grant cycle. Award amounts varry but are most typically between $5,000 to $10,000 per organization. In some cases, we have awarded up to $15,000 for an annual grant.

How are grant decisions made?

Each application round has a grant review team comprised of volunteers from the community, our leadership team, and/or that have program or grant writing experience. We have a conflict of interest policy that prohibits anyone affiliated with an applicant from participating in the funding decision.
